Captain America

Filed under: Uncategorized — culturalfewmet @ 9:24 pm

I read where Captain America will be in the USO. Okay, I see that they don’t want to make any money on this one.

Part of the director’s problem is that he thinks the red, white, and blue costume is cliched and has to be explained. The costume frightens them off…come on. Unlike now in the 1940s they actually wanted us to win wars and were patriotic about it. Damn. I wonder if this Captain America will have to address the don’t ask/ don’t tell policy.

The latest budget….

I thought W was a spendthrift. Should I be teaching my son how to speak Mandarin? Maybe? Thank god he likes chinese food.

I know one thing when President Obama talks about cutting back, he is talking about toilet tissue because everywhere else he spending more and more and more.

Poor President

Now not to be rude, but the president did seem to bask in the glory of being the Left Messiah, so he should have expected to be crucified. If he viewed religion as more than a philosophy, he probably would known this fact.

The Pro Bowl

Filed under: Uncategorized — culturalfewmet @ 2:17 am

Yes, oh yes, the Pro Bowl. America, at least most of America, loves football, so much so that the most boring, half assed display of football, the Pro Bowl, gets an audience. I think I’d rather watch a skills competition than the Pro Bowl.

X games

Filed under: Uncategorized — culturalfewmet @ 10:09 pm

Watching the winter X Games which is always fun and they had a commercial with some of the athletes calling for support of Haiti. No problem with charity for Haiti, but I’m getting tired of all ads for charity or political action looking like Gap ads. I mean mixing images of suffering and adorable athletes holding an H just doesn’t work. Not everything has to be edgy or make you look hip.

Hate to admit it….

Filed under: Uncategorized — culturalfewmet @ 9:54 pm

I hate to admit it but I want the Ipad. I know that Apple is in essence evil as it sucks you into a world of apps and hidden costs and fees sucking all your money into Steve Jobs wallet, but I want Ipad. I like it. I want it. I give up.

An audience of none.

So I checked my stats and saw that no one is reading me. Boo hoo. My feelings are hurt. So now I can be really honest.

I am news surfing at the moment and have two things to comment on: Shep Smith on Fox makes me want to drown puppies and Rick’s List on CNN is cloying, annoying, and boring.

A kid used his bike to raise $150,000 for the people in haiti. I can’t get my son to do the dishes.  Does that make me a bad parent?

It is cold in TN. Besides lack of state taxes and warm weather, there aren’t too many reasons to live in TN, unless you are a country music artist.  I can’t get a decent bagel here, or a real slice of pizza. I might as well raise lamb because I can’t find any in the supermarkets here.  Do you know what it is like to be a Catholic in TN? Think catacombs in Ancient Rome.

My son is homeschooled and supposed to be in the sixth grade, which means I am about at the end of my ability of teaching him math. Are you still homeschooled if you have a tutor in math, or are you just like landed gentry in the 17th and 18th century?

Does anyone else think that SAG should have to register as a Political Action Committee?

Do you find Shep Smith of Fox smug or bombastic?

When Obama comes on to explain something or give a speech, do your eyes glaze over?

Fund raiser for Haiti tonigh (Tragic but I don’t need the cast of New Moon telling me to give money when I already have.) – how about instead of preempting every channel for two hours, each one of the stars who is committed to the fundraiser gives a million dollars?

Dog being saved in LA on TV…. Why?  Isn’t there something else that can be shown, like real news? LA is broke, so why is their fire department wasting money on a dog? Would they do this if it was an illegal alien?

Can someone shut Rex Ryan up?

On ESPN Mike Greenburg screwed up and made a muck up on Martin Luther King’s day saying something racial – how did he avoid a suspension?

What the…..?

Filed under: Uncategorized — culturalfewmet @ 11:53 pm

Why do we constantly let Hollywood and entertainment people off the hook? Conan O’Brien and other late night hosts loved slamming bankers and Wall Streeters for their large bonues, even though their companies failed and needed bailing out. So now Conan, who is fired because of his ratings, gets millions to be fired. Hey, that sounds vaguely like getting a big bonus from a failing company….. Make me laugh at the Conan? Slam yourself. Didn’t GE take bail out money and don’t they still own part of NBC?

I don’t mind celebrities having opinions or being political, but it would be nice if they avoided hypocrisy.

I was born and raised in South Boston, Mass, though I no longer live there, so I can speak with some experience on the election. There was a time that the democrats could get a semi-literate mook, aka the current mayor of Boston, elected. It’s a testament to the mood of the country that a republican got elected to the senate. So when Pelosi said the era of corruption was over….was she being disingenuous or just clueless?
